FYI-MEMBERS RECEIVING / APPLYING FOR PUBLIC ASSISTANCE BEWARE
Although members of the NYPD who enter the Police Department may qualify for public assistance, it appears the Police Department has overextended themselves to terminate a female police officer.
This probationary police officer and single mother of five was terminated in 2005 after being approved for social service benefits. During her end of probation interview, she was asked the status of her benefits by her Applicant Processing investigator. After admitting that she was still receiving 30% of her benefits during her probationary period as a police officer, she was subsequently suspended. After a half a**ed investigation by Internal Affairs, she was arrested for Grand Larceny and Fraud.
In January of 2005, she was terminated by Police Commissioner Kelly. As a result of this case, we are informing our members that although a member may financially qualify for public assistance, the New York City Police Department is terminating members.
Therefore, beware and spread the news to all members of the Police Department.
